A transcript is only useful once it is right. Most tools hand you a block of text and leave the checking to you, scrubbing back and forth through the video to find the line that was misheard.

AutoCap keeps the text tied to the video. Every word knows when it was spoken, so you correct it where it stands with the picture beside it — and the transcript you download is one you have actually checked.

Text you can trust, with the timing kept.

A time for every word

Each word carries its own start and end time, so the transcript and the video never drift apart.

Corrections in place

Fix a misheard name or term right where it sits in the transcript, with the video playing alongside.

Plain text or subtitle files

Download paragraphs of plain text, or SRT and VTT files with timestamps, on any paid plan.

39 languages

From English and Spanish to Polish, Greek and Ukrainian — pick the language when you upload.

Only the audio leaves your device

The video stays on your computer or phone; only its sound is sent to be transcribed.

Transcribe a video in four steps.

  1. 01

    Upload the video

Drop in an MP4 or MOV and pick the language that is spoken in it.

  2. 02

    Get the transcript

AutoCap writes out the speech and gives every word a start and an end time.

  3. 03

    Proofread it

Read along with the video and correct anything that was misheard; corrections never use minutes.

  4. 04

    Download

Save the transcript as plain text, or as an SRT or VTT file with timestamps.

Plain text, or text with timestamps?

Choose by what happens next. A TXT file is the transcript as paragraphs — the format for quoting an interview, writing show notes or pasting into a document.

An SRT or VTT file keeps a timestamp on every caption, which is what YouTube, video editors and subtitle players read. Both come from the same corrected transcript, so you only proofread once.

A page for every language it transcribes

AutoCap transcribes 39 languages, from English and Spanish to Icelandic, Maltese and Georgian. Each has its own page with advice for proofreading it: the letters to check, the endings and accents that trip a transcript up.

What a transcription minute measures

Minutes count the length of the audio you transcribe, once. Rereading, correcting and downloading the transcript again costs nothing, so a long interview can be checked as slowly as it needs.

Good to know.

Is it free to transcribe a video?

You can start free: the plan includes 2 minutes of transcription a month for clips up to 60 seconds. Downloading the transcript as TXT, SRT or VTT comes with the paid plans, from $19 a month.

Can I transcribe an audio file?

Not directly — AutoCap works from MP4 and MOV video. A recording exported as a video with a still image transcribes the same way.

Does it label who is speaking?

No. The transcript is the words in order with their timings; add names yourself if you need them.

How long can the video be?

Up to 60 seconds on the free plan and up to 5 minutes on the paid plans.

Is my video uploaded?

No. AutoCap sends just the soundtrack to be transcribed, and the picture stays on your device.

Try it on the next video you post.

The free plan needs no card. Upload a clip, check the captions yourself, and only upgrade when you want the watermark gone.
