Getting started
What is AutoCap?
An automatic caption and subtitle generator. Upload a video, get an editable transcript with a timing for every word, style the captions, and export a video with the captions burned in or standard SRT and VTT subtitle files.
Do I need to install anything?
No. AutoCap runs in your web browser on desktop or phone. If you like, you can add it to your home screen or dock so it opens like an app.
What kind of video can I upload?
MP4 or MOV files with speech in them, straight from a phone or a camera.
How long can a video be?
Up to 60 seconds on the free plan and up to 5 minutes on paid plans.
Captions and accuracy
Which languages are supported?
English today. Languages spoken across Europe and the United States are being added one at a time — the languages page shows what is live and what is planned.
How accurate are the captions?
On clear speech, accurate enough that checking them is a quick read-through. Background noise, overlapping voices and loud music lower accuracy, and names or specialist terms may need correcting — every word can be edited before you export.
Do captions land exactly on each word?
Each word gets its own start and end time from the speech model, which is what keeps word-by-word and karaoke styles on the beat. Any word's timing can still be nudged on the timeline.
Can I edit the captions?
Yes. Correct any word, split or merge lines, adjust individual word timings and restyle everything. Editing never uses transcription minutes.
Files and export
Can I download SRT or VTT files?
Yes, on every paid plan. The files are written from the transcript you corrected. If you already have a subtitle file, the free SRT to VTT and VTT to SRT converters work without an account.
What quality can I export?
Up to 2K (1440p) on every plan, including free. The export keeps your clip's frame rate and audio, and nothing is ever upscaled — a 720p source stays 720p.
Which aspect ratios can I export?
9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, 1:1 for feeds, and 16:9 for YouTube. The export crops to match.
Which browsers can export video?
Burning captions into an MP4 uses WebCodecs, which current Chrome and Edge support. In a browser without it you can still edit captions and download subtitle files — the export button tells you rather than failing when you click it.
Plans and billing
What do I get on the free plan?
Two minutes of transcription a month, clips up to 60 seconds, all 32 caption styles, export up to 2K and unlimited exports with a small watermark. No credit card needed.
Can I pay once instead of subscribing?
For a single video, yes: removing the watermark from one video is a one-time $5 / €5, and you can re-export that video watermark-free for 24 hours. It's once per account, never renews and adds no transcription minutes.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your account and you won't be charged again; your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
Which currency will I pay in?
Euros if you're in Europe and US dollars everywhere else. Taxes such as VAT or sales tax may be added at checkout depending on where you live.
Privacy
Do you upload my video?
No — only the audio is sent, to transcribe it. The captioned video is rendered on your own device, in the browser.
Do you use my content to train AI?
No. Your videos, audio and transcripts are used to provide the service to you, not to train models.
Where can I read the details?
The privacy policy explains what is collected, why, who processes it and how to exercise your rights under GDPR and US state privacy laws. The cookie policy lists every cookie the site uses.
